Do you hear James Brown in your head asking what blogs are good for? Me too! But, I have plenty of answers and they extend far beyond crafting blog posts alone. There are many things your blog can do for you besides be a place to post content that drives traffic and possible revenue your way.
Here are some of the things blogs are good for:
Gather Social Media Followers
Plant a few widgets onto the sidebar of your blog that link to your social media accounts and ask people to follow or ‘like’ you. This will enable you to connect with them repeatedly and continually drive them back to your blog.
Don’t hesitate to put social media buttons on each post and to ask for the occasional re-tweet or ‘like’ on social media.
Get Traffic to Other Content
A blog presents a few ways to drive traffic to other content, including: linking to content from within blog posts, linking to content from your sidebar or blogroll, and by planting other content within your blog posts. These could be infographics, videos, and other links.
You may have a variety of content you want to link to but bear in mind that search engines will make connections between the subject matter. Going too far off topic could hurt your organic search engine optimisation efforts.
Add a subscription box to your blog and the occasional subscription invite to pieces of content. You can use email marketing lists or newsletter marketing as a way to sell to subscribers and as a way to leverage your audience in many other ways, too.
Network with Others
Your blog can be a great place to network. You can use it to draw people in. Link to influential people, for example, and they may stop by to see what you’ve said about them. They could become a reader, even.
You can gather a lot of info from your blog. Put out polls or questions and glean information from comment sections of your popular posts. This information, along with info from your search engine traffic reports, can help you decide on new topics to talk about as well as new products to advertise.
Many bloggers are selling something, sort of, through contextual advertisements and banner ads. But your blog can be used to sell something directly, too. You can add links in and you could craft a sales letter to sell something specifically.
The better your blog and your content is, overall, the better the chances of people actually buying something at your recommendation.
As you can see, your blog can be a multipurpose tool – and it definitely is good for plenty! The more you use it to your advantage wisely, the more profitable blogging will be for you.
